How to print QR codes that sync to Product ID or SKU

Learn how to print QR codes that automatically sync to Product ID or SKU in Ribbn for fast, accurate product lookup using the mobile app.

A QR code can store data that can be assigned or unassigned to a product via the Ribbn mobile app.
On the backend, we store this value in a field called rfidTag. While originally designed for RFID tags, this field supports any data stored in a QR code.

When a QR code is scanned in the mobile app, Ribbn searches your inventory using these rules:

  1. Check if the QR code’s value matches the rfidTag field.
  2. If not, check if it matches the Ribbn ProductId (a unique ID generated by Ribbn for each new product created)
  3. If not, check if it matches the SKU field.

If you embed either the ProductId or SKU in the QR code, there’s no need to manually assign a value - it will automatically link to the correct product. The system prioritizes the rfidTag first, followed by ProductId, then SKU, ensuring the most precise and efficient lookup.

For fastest fetching we recommend to use the Product ID above SKU but that's of course up to you.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Export the Product CSV from Ribbn with the SKU + price + size in each column.
What you could then also do is to add the Product ID in the Product export and use that as your QR ID, or SKU if you prefer to keep that as a source.

2. In Dymo you add the different text elements for each product SKU + Price + Size but also a QR element which you link to the imported product ID column.

3. Start with printing only one test-label so you see if the result is what you expected before printing all products.

Now once you scan the new label with QR code in the Ribbn app it should show your product in the Ribbn system.

Alternative method: Pre-printing QR codes and assigning them later

If you prefer to work ahead, you can generate a batch of unassigned QR codes and attach them to products later using the Ribbn scanner. Here's how:

  1. Generate your QR codes
Ask ChatGPT (or use any tool of your choice) to create a list of random unique numbers. Export this list as a CSV file.

  2. Create QR labels with Dymo
In Dymo, use your CSV file to create QR codes. Each QR code should contain one of the unique numbers.

  3. Print and attach the QR codes
Print the QR labels and attach them to tickets or hangtags. At this point, these QR codes aren’t yet connected to any specific product in Ribbn.

  4. Assign a QR code to a product in Ribbn
Open the Ribbn mobile app, navigate to Inventory, and either select an existing product or create a new one.
Under the media section, tap Assign QR/RFID Tag, then scan the QR code you attached to the item. This will connect the unique value inside the QR code to the product.

Once assigned, the QR code will act as a quick link to that product whenever it's scanned.
